Tips and Tricks

  • Always take a friend or family member with you on your visits to the doctor. This might help you remember more clearly what the doctor has said
  • Eating well helps you get the most benefit from your cancer treatment
  • Eating plenty of fruits and vegetables can lower the risk of developing cancer
  • Cancer and some cancer treatments can cause heartburn. To reduce the burning feeling - avoid large meals, sit up for a while after eating, wear loose fitting clothing, avoid talking while chewing food
  • Eat what you like, when you want it. Eat smaller amounts more often
  • Always write down the name of the medications you are on
  • It is important to discuss your medication / any other issues with your medical oncologist or your chemotherapy nurse
  • No two people have exactly the same type of Cancer; therefore, no two people will have exactly the same treatment
  • Remember! Drink plenty of water. Drinking water and other fluids is an important part of healthy eating. Every part of your body needs water to stay healthy. Drink at least 6 to 8 glasses of water or caffeine-free fluids each day. When you are active or when it is hot outside you will need to drink more.
