Process for Diagnosis

If your doctor after talking with you about your health and completing a physical examination suspects you have cancer, a number of special tests are ordered (dependant on the cancer type) to confirm the cancer diagnosis. Tests carried out to confirm diagnosis may include X-rays, ultrasound, CT (computerized axial tomography) scans, bone scans, blood tests and biopsy.

Testing will also identify the grade of your cancer cells and confirm the severity of the cancer. Low grade cells are slower to divide and the cancer is generally less aggressive. High grade cells divide more quickly and the cancer is more likely to spread. It is advisable to have the tests done as soon as they are recommended in order to prevent the spread of cancer if present.
