Rose's Cancer Journey with Grawitz's Carcinoma

Photograph of Rose Twelve years ago, I was diagnosed with Grawitz's Carcinoma of the left kidney. I was 52, ready to enjoy life a bit, having brought up three children and cared for extended family for many years. Cancer had claimed the life of my mother, father, brother and mother-in-law and now, my turn had arrived, not fair!

I struggled with anxiety constantly since the diagnosis and surgery. I was a nurse by profession, and my silent fear was metastases, recurrence of cancer in others parts of the body. I was not ready to go. I had worked hard since I was eighteen, leaving home to start nursing training in Sydney. I was like a fire engine that went non stop until my diagnosis. Now that I had to slow down somewhat after surgery, I found my time was engaged in negative and fearful thoughts. If only my faith was stronger, then I would not be so scared of dying? Cansupport conducts Information and Support meetings for a range of cancer diagnoses providing an opportunity for patients, relatives and friends to discuss cancer related issues with health professionals and volunteers.

Early Breast Cancer Information and Support Meetings

Six week series on Tuesday mornings commencing January 29, April 29, July 22 and October 14 10.00am-12.00 noon. Radiation Oncology Conference Room - Level 1, Building 36 (adjacent to Department of Radiotherapy), RNS. Speakers on related topics followed by a general discussion. Life after Early Breast Cancer

Life after early Breast Cancer Workshops designed for women who have completed their treatment for early breast cancer. This workshop gives an opportunity for women to discuss common issues that are raised post-treatment. Please call 992 67246 for further information.

Prostate Cancer Information and Support Meetings

These meetings provide a forum where men with Prostate Cancer and their families can keep up to date with information provided by speakers from the health professions and share experiences. 4.00pm-6.00pm Radiation Oncology Conference Room - Level 1, Building 36, (adjacent to Dept of Radiotherapy) RNS.
